These are two films I entered for the Coca-Cola Challenge run by surprisingly enough Coca-Cola a while ago. The idea is to create some short films based around a special effect; the only limit your imagination and 45 seconds.

My first entry was called Cosmic Zoom. The idea is from the twilight zone episode The Little People, where little people worship a human astronaut who lands on there planet or in this case a can of coke. I original planned to do some stop motion animation with the Lego figures but eventually decided on something a bit simpler.

The main effect I used was the earth zoom effect (tutorial link below), where basically you layer differnet elements on top of each other and zoom out through them. The first and last layers in this case were videos clips the idea being to make the still image layers of the earth blend into a continuous video.

This entry was recently added to one of my favourite websites Toolfarm in its inspirations list.

Software: Adobe Premiere 1.0
Recording Equipment: Panasonic NV-GS70

My second entry was called The Trade. The film was based on an idea I had where the setup is a large drug deal which turns out to be something a bit more mundane in this case a can of coca cola, of course I wasnt suggesting coca cola was a highly addictive substance!.

I wanted to have a sort of film noir feel to it hence the low-key black-and-white visual style and the extreme high and low angles. I added in the final shot to give the film a slight futurastic feel and add some back story as to why there was such a high price for the can of coke.

Music: "Zombie Hoodoo" by Kevin Macleod

Software: Adobe Premiere 1.0
Recording Equipment: Panasonic NV-GS70

Inspirations:
Coca Cola Advert - Although this is unrelated to my compeition entry and came out a long time after I made these, its cleverly made, has some beautiful animation and is well worth watching.
